Our Mission The Martha's Vineyard Builders' Association, through education, collaboration, and collective action, works to strengthen the design and construction industry while supporting and enhancing the local economy, environment, and community. |
We Want You… to help shape the future and voice of the MVBA When you participate in an MVBA Committee, you help steer initiatives from an early stage and play a key role in establishing future happenings. The MVBA represents the voice of our building community and the more voices involved, the more the organization truly reflects the opinions and desires of the membership. Below is a snapshot of the initiatives the committees are currently working on. If you are interested in elevating your voice and actively joining in the conversation in any of the below topics, please email admin@mvbuilders.org. Events Committee: The Events Committee plans and schedules each event hosted or sponsored by the MVBA including educational events for continuing education credits, member appreciation and social events, roundtables for local building and trades people to share views on issues impacting the Island community, etc. At present, the Events Committee is focused on creating a meaningful, valuable, and educational events calendar for fall/winter 2022 and fun yet engaging membership appreciation and networking opportunities.
Membership Committee: The Membership Committee is focused on expanding valuable membership benefits, educating potential future candidates on advantages of membership with the MVBA, and encouraging new members of various trades and design backgrounds to join the organization. The work of the Membership Committee is currently focused on growing the membership and enhancing member benefits. Community Engagement Committee: A key element of the organization’s mission is to support and enhance our Island community, the Community Engagement Committee is dedicated to making sure the MVBA puts our mission into action. By partnering with local non-profits whose missions align with our own, we are able to make an even larger, positive impact by joining forces. We collaborate with organizations such as Habitat MV, Healthy Aging MV, MV Youth, among many others, to create a reciprocal relationship which assists us each with achieving our individual goals. Currently the Community Engagement Committee is focused on bringing local youth into the trades by introducing them to possible careers and working with our community partners to create educational opportunities in our schools so high-quality training and interest may start at an early age. Regulatory Committee: The MVBA was born out of a chorus of community voices in the design and trade sector who felt the need to band together and amplify their voices. The work of the Regulatory Committee continues this tradition by keeping current on the changes with local Building Departments, building code, and the Martha’s Vineyard Commission. This committee identifies significant regulatory changes and works to communicate those changes to our members. The work of this committee is ongoing but currently includes supporting local building inspectors to better serve the tradesmen and women, and consider proposed changes to local code. The above committees are looking for engaged volunteers to join and meet virtually 1-2 times per month for no more than one hour. Your participation means the work of the organization will continue to be aligned with the goals and intentions of our members. If interested, please email your name and preferred committee to admin@mvbuilders.org. |
