HEALTHY AGING HOUSING MODIFICATION PROGRAM

Looking for MVBA Members to Participate in a Pilot Housing Modification Program!

What is it?

A pilot program to provide housing modifications to island elders.

Why?

To address the need for an island-wide home modification program which would make it easy and affordable to have minor modifications made, such as grab bars, easy use switches, smoothing uneven floors, pull out shelves, stairway handrails etc.  This pilot program is funded from a Martha’s Vineyard Hospital Community Benefit Program grant for HAMV to work with island organizations to create a scalable program. It will continue on through 2021.

How does it work?

Islanders who have a need for housing modifications will be identified through an application process. A home visit will be made to determine what needs to be done.  MVBA members who are interested in participating in this program will be contacted when a job becomes available. The work will be funded by the homeowner or through the grant.

How can you contribute?

Sign up to be on the list of MVBA members who are contacted when a home modification program is identified and when it works, take on the job! You will review the work order and visit the home to finalize the project and provide an estimate. You will be paid from the homeowner or HAMV or you can even chose to volunteer your time! We will ask for your feedback during the pilot program to make certain we are developing a program that works for our island elders and works for you.
